A common question: "When I create a contribution and choose a credit-card tender type, there's no place to type the donor's card number — where is it?"
CoolFocus never lets staff type a donor's card number. That's deliberate: it keeps your organization out of scope for card-security (PCI) rules. There is no card-number field on the contribution form for any tender type. So a credit-card gift is captured one of two ways, depending on the situation.
Point the donor to your Donation Form — the secure online form where they enter their own card details. When they submit, CoolFocus records the contribution automatically, with the tender type set from the card they used. (See Donation Forms.)
If a donor already has a recurring contribution and needs to add or change a card, open that recurring contribution's Details tab, find the Payment method section, and use Email or Text to send the donor a secure "update your payment method" link. They enter the new card themselves and it's applied to their recurring gift. (This secure link lives on recurring contributions.)
The Tender Type on a contribution (Check, Cash, and whatever card/online types your organization has set up) is a configurable list — an administrator manages which values exist. It records how a gift came in. For online card gifts, CoolFocus sets the tender type for you when the donor pays; you don't pick it by hand.
