Register is the fast, three-column checkout screen for Points & Inventory: catalog on the left, cart in the middle, and payment on the right. It replaces the old scroll-and-click item list with a searchable catalog and a SKU quick-add box, so a counter can add items in seconds instead of hunting through a long list.
• Pick a client and a center first. The catalog and cart load for the client and center you selected, and prices and stock reflect that center.
• Points & Inventory must be enabled for your organization, and your user group needs the checkout permissions described in Points & Inventory Overview.
The catalog stays usable even with 200+ items:
• Search matches an item's name or SKU as you type.
• Filter by category appears only when your catalog actually has categories set. If no item has a category, the filter is hidden instead of showing a useless empty dropdown.
• Each row shows the item's picture (or a colored icon if no picture is set), its point cost, the on-hand quantity at the selected center, and a Low stock badge when it's running low.
• If an item's picture fails to load, the row shows the item's initials instead of a broken-image icon, so the row still identifies the item.
• Items you can't claim right now, because they're inactive, have no point cost set, or are out of stock, show a clear reason (for example "No longer available" or "Out of stock") and their +/- buttons are disabled.
A persistent Scan or enter SKU box sits at the top of the cart. Type a SKU and press Enter, or use a USB/keyboard-wedge barcode scanner, which works today with no extra setup since a scanner just types the SKU and presses Enter for you.
A scan can match either an item's canonical SKU or one of its barcode aliases. Aliases let one catalog item respond to more than one printed barcode, so a manufacturer UPC, a re-boxed case code, and a locally printed label can all resolve to the same item. See "Barcode aliases" in Inventory Tracking for how staff add them.
• A known, active, in-stock SKU or barcode alias adds one unit to the cart and clears the box.
• Scanning a code that's already in the cart increments the existing line rather than adding a second line for the same item.
• An unknown code shows an error message and never touches the cart.
• An inactive item's SKU or alias shows a distinct message ("no longer available") instead of "unknown."
• An out-of-stock code, or one already at the cart's maximum available quantity, shows a warning and doesn't add the item.
• If two different catalog items happen to share the same SKU, quick-add refuses to guess. It tells you to pick the item from the catalog instead of silently adding the wrong one.
• A scanner's occasional double-fire of the same barcode within a fraction of a second is treated as one scan, not two.
• Only a barcode alias that's still active resolves at the register. A retired alias behaves the same as an unknown code, it does not fall back to matching anything.
None of these rejections ever change what's in the cart. A failed scan only produces a message.
Each cart line shows the item name, a quantity stepper capped at on-hand stock for tracked items, a per-line point subtotal, and a remove button. The cart shows a running total in points at the bottom.
If you change the center while the cart has items, the cart clears and you'll see a notice explaining why: items, prices, or stock at the old center may not carry over to the new one.
A completed checkout line always keeps the item's name and point cost as they were at the moment of that sale. Editing the item's name, price, image, or barcodes afterward changes future checkouts only, past receipts never change.
