Boutique Devices let a center pair an iPad or phone for checkout-only Points & Inventory (Boutique) work, without signing that device into a full CoolFocus account. A paired device gets its own dedicated, least-privilege identity scoped to one center. It is not a Clerk login and it cannot browse client records, donors, or any other part of CRM.
Boutique Devices are managed from a center's settings page, in the Boutique Devices section (find your center under Scheduler Settings > Locations, then open its settings).
1. Open the center's settings page.
2. Find the Boutique Devices section.
3. Click Generate pairing code.
This produces:
• A short pairing code (for example ABCD-EFGH) that staff can type on the device.
• A QR code and pairing link the device can scan instead of typing the code.
• An expiration time for the code, typically 15 minutes (your organization can configure this, up to 60 minutes).
Pairing codes are single-use. Once a device redeems a code, that code cannot pair a second device, and it disappears from the active pairing codes list.
Each unredeemed code is listed under active pairing codes with a masked value and its expiration. Click Revoke next to a code to deactivate it immediately, before it gets used. This is useful if a code was written down somewhere it shouldn't have been, or a shift ended before the device was paired.
Every device that has completed pairing shows up in the device list for that center, along with when it paired and when it was last active.
• Rename a device: give it a name staff will recognize, such as "Front Desk iPad" or "Checkout Counter 2", so the list stays useful as more devices pair over time.
• Revoke a device: immediately ends that device's session. The device's current access token stops working and it cannot use its refresh token to get a new one, so it must be paired again with a fresh code before it can check out clients.
Revoking a device is the right move any time a device is lost, replaced, or no longer in service.
A paired device can use the Boutique mobile app for checkout-only work at the center it was paired to: browsing the catalog, scanning or looking up a client, and completing a checkout. Points & Inventory must be enabled for your organization for these features to appear; a device paired at a center where the module isn't enabled sees no catalog or checkout features.
A device's access is locked to the customer and center it paired into. A device cannot be redirected to another center or another organization's data, even if it sends a different center or customer ID.
Every checkout the device completes is recorded against that device, alongside the operator who ran it and any supervisor who approved an exception. See Boutique Operators: PINs and Supervisor Approval for how that attribution works.
• Only CoolFocus administrators with access to generate pairing codes can create or revoke them for a center.
• A pairing code that is expired, already used, revoked, or generated for a different center or organization is rejected, and pairing fails with an error rather than granting partial access.
• Pairing and revocation actions are recorded so your organization can see who paired or revoked a given device.
