CoolFocus Query Language (CQL) — Segments in Plain Language

Smart Segments made it easy to build an audience by clicking through filters. CoolFocus Query Language (CQL) gives that same power a written form — for the moments when it's faster to say what you mean than to click it.

CQL lets you express a segment as readable text you can write, copy, paste, and share. You can switch between the visual filter panel and the written query at any time — build it one way, refine it the other. And when you're not sure how to phrase it, you can describe the audience in plain English and let CoolFocus write the query for you.

What's new

  • Write your segment: express an audience as clear, readable query text.

  • Toggle between filter panel and query: move between clicking and writing without losing your work.

  • Copy, paste, and share: hand a query to a teammate the way you'd share a formula.

  • Ask in plain English: describe who you're looking for, and AI turns it into a valid CQL query you can review and adjust.

Why it matters

  • Power users get precise, shareable control over complex audiences.

  • Everyone else can ask for what they want in plain language.

  • The visual and written views are two windows onto the same segment — use whichever is faster.

How to try it

Open the filter panel on any grid and switch to the CQL editor to write your query — or use the natural-language entry point to describe the audience and let CoolFocus draft it for you.
